MCE Outlook is an MCE interface for viewing Appointments, Contacts,
Emails, Notes and Tasks on your MCE, using the remote control.
The current version does support creating new items and sending email.
For using MCE Outlook it is assumed that you are familiar with the
concepts and structure of Microsoft Outlook.
For a proper use of MCE Outlook, it is recommended that you start
Outlook first and take care there are no popup windows like reminders.
Since MCE is always on the foreground, you cannot see these popup
windows, but Outlook will wait responding until you remove the popup
windows by answering or pressing the OK button. MCE Outlook will wait
until all popups are removed and Outlook is free to communicate with MCE Outlook.
This is a problem of Outlook, so I can't change this.
The main page shows the default folders on the right and the main
folders on the left-center.
You can go directly to a default folder using the right buttons or
browse through the folder system using the left-center buttons.
By browsing, you will also find the default folders.
The default folders are limited to Appointments, Contacts, Inbox, Sent
Items, Notes and Tasks, while browsing will show you all folders and
subfolders except the Deleted Items folders and Address Lists.
When you are in a Folder, pressing the Sub Folders button will show you
all the sub folders, including nested sub folders.
To view an item, whether it is an Appointment, Contact, Email, Note
or Task, just press on it and you will get the details.
Contacts are shown by first character, to view Contacts starting with
another character, press the character button on the small keyboard on
the right side of the screen.
Appointments and Emails are shown by date and only a time span of 7 days
is shown. For Appointments its the current day + the next week, for
Emails its the last 7 days. If you need another time span, press Go To
Date and on the calendar choose a date, the date will appear at the top
of the screen. If the date is right, press Confirm and your
Email/Appointments are shown for that date again with a time span of 7
days.
Emails are shown in HTML view mode (but with the Text Mode button, you
can go to plain text), which often results in small
characters. You can zoom and pan to make it more visible. Zooming by
pressing the Zoom In or Zoom Out buttons, panning by using the Up, Down,
PgUp or PgDn keys for vertical panning and the Home and End keys for
horizontal panning. On the remote control use the Up and Down arrows for
vertical panning and the Skip and Replay keys for horizontal panning.
New Appointments, Contacts, Emails, Notes and Tasks can be created in
the default folders.
When you save an email, Outlook will save it in the Drafts or Outbox
folder and it will be send when Outlook looks for new email, so you
can't send it directly. To bypass this, you can send emails directly by
using the Send ASP Email button, only in this case the email is not
saved in Outlook. The Setup page lets you enter the data for the ASP
email.
In all input pages, you can use the TripleTap with your remote
control and then press the Copy button to copy the text in the specific
field, or use the remote controlled keyboard with the Get button.
Date fields have an extra button, so you can use the calendar to enter a
date and be sure the format matches your computers settings. For time
fields you will see a spinner box to choose the right time and duration.
For email fields an Address Book is implemented.
The Setup page now also lets you change the language, the background
and turn on/off the Marquee additionally you can enter a signature for
your emails. You can also change the start time for the weekly planboard.
To work with Categories, you have to create one entry in the default
Contacts folder with the name Categories. Then make this Contact member
of all the Categories you use. Unfortunately it is not possible to read
the Outlook master list of categories, so we have to do it this way.
For creating new items or editing old items, the following fields are
supported:
Email:
- Recipient
- CC
- Subject
- Body

Extender logs onto the Media Center PC as a user.
Another guy showed
me how to get it to work -- might be worth posting
on your site or the
GB! See http://www.betaone.net/forum/thread-16476.html
Hey Max Beeter,
First, start with creating a new account on your XP machine. Name
it MCX2 or something. Logon to Windows with this new account so
the users profile is created. logoff, and login as an
administrator.
Now replace that newly created profile with the profile of your
actual extender user witch is usually MCX1. Don't just copy it with
the explorer, use the "User Profiles" option from the
properties of the "My Computer" icon on your desktop.
Don't forget to hand out rights/privileges to the MCX2 user!
Now logon with the MCX2 account and setup your outlook account,
make sure it uses the Exchange mailbox you want to use on your
extender. Start MCE Outlook and double check everything works like
it should. If it don't work in a regular windows session, it
surely won't work on the extender!!!
Now logoff and logon as an Administrator again, and repeat the
profile copy process, now copying the MCX2 profile to the MCX1
profile (again, don't forget to set the privileges) and make MCX1
also a member of *all* the groups MCX2 is a member of. Now start
your xbox and have fun
If everything works you can safely remove the MCX2 account.
If it doesn't work, please explain witch part doesn't work...
Good luck, and have fun.
Cheers
